Zack’s is located in a historically rich section of Hoboken. Zack’s corner building was constructed in the late 1880’s and originally housed a grocery store catering to immigrants from Germany, England and Italy. When the commercial property was converted to a tavern in 1892, the current mahogany and oak bar was installed and it soon became a hub of activity, specifically for merchants and sailors stopping at the bar on their way home or to an SRO (single room occupancy). Keeping with its rich history, Zack’s has maintained its old world charm and appeal, preserving original tin ceilings, the oak bar, replicating the 19thcentury tiled floor, and adorning the walls with street and river scenes of old Hoboken. The result, a classic feel with modern execution.
